First of all, you can also hire to repair or restore surfaces that are damaged to make them look as new as possible once you’re done painting. Start with a clean and smooth surface by washing off dirt, scraping and sanding the old paint to remove any cracked or loose pieces. Use a cloth to catch or wipe off small debris.  A professional can sand and patch areas of your exteriors and can caulk areas that need caulking for a much smoother canvas to start with.

You’ll then need to cover up stain blocking primers to maintain the life of your paint. Apply on bare wood, a newly repaired area, glossy surfaces or on any bare surface. Using a primer in bare wood will also make you use less topcoat and makes the color richer. Stains are also visible even through multiple layers of topcoat so it is advisable to apply primer to get rid of it.
